Meet the Makers: Inside Our Parker, Colorado Workshop

L & M Designs was created with a simple idea in mind: to make special, unique pieces so there is something for everyone. Every item we build is designed to be different, personal, and made with intention — not pulled from a catalog or mass-produced line.

Our workshop is located in Parker, Colorado, where we work full time creating handcrafted furniture and home decor. What started as an artistic outlet quickly became something more when people began asking if they could own the pieces we were making. That interest made it clear it was time to share our work beyond our own space.

How L & M Designs Began

At heart, this work comes from being an artist. Furniture allows us to combine wood and metal in ways that are functional, expressive, and durable. In 2025, we made the decision to take that creativity seriously and bring our work to market.

There wasn't a single business plan or launch moment. It happened naturally — people saw the pieces, connected with them, and asked if they could have one. That was the signal that this wasn't just a hobby anymore.

L & M Designs exists because of that belief and support — L & M stands for Leigh & Mark. Having someone who believes in what you're building makes all the difference.

Inside the Workshop

Our shop currently operates out of our garage, and that space is where everything happens — from early ideas to finished pieces ready for a home.

We work with:

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Upcycled materials

Often all three come together in a single piece. A normal workday depends entirely on the project at hand. We usually take one piece from start to finish, which means the day could involve welding, cutting, sanding, assembly, or applying a fine finish — sometimes all in the same project.

That start-to-finish approach keeps the process personal and hands-on at every stage.

How Pieces Come to Life

Most pieces begin with a vision. Sometimes it's something we see that sparks an idea — other times it's noticing something that could be done better.

For example, seeing a poorly made cigar box lamp inspired us to rethink the design entirely. That idea turned into cigar box lamps that are solid, balanced, and thoughtfully finished. The same happened with the walnut and black pipe bench — it wasn't something we saw elsewhere. It was a clear image in our head that we brought to life.

Knowing when a piece is finished isn't always simple. Some pieces feel like they could be worked on forever, but eventually the romance with that piece has to end. We stop when we believe it will truly please someone else. Other times, the piece reaches the vision so closely that there's simply nothing left to improve — those are the easy ones.

Standards We Don't Compromise On

We don't cut corners on finish work.

If a piece is meant to look rustic, we take the time to make it feel authentically so. If it's intended to be elegant, we don't stop until it is. The finish is where a piece comes together, and it's not rushed.

That attention to detail is what turns an idea into something someone wants in their home.

Why Custom and One-of-a-Kind Work Matters to Us

What we enjoy most is bringing a vision to life — and knowing that someone else loves it too. That connection is what makes one-of-a-kind work special.

When a customer receives one of our pieces, we want them to feel like they've bought something they've wanted for a long time. Something they're excited to place in their space. Something that makes them happy every time they see it.

That feeling is the goal behind every piece that leaves our shop.

Final Thought

L & M Designs isn't about trends or mass production. It's about creating furniture and decor that feels personal, intentional, and built to last. Every piece carries the story of how it was imagined, built, and finished — right here in our Parker, Colorado workshop.
